How to Make Interior Clay Paint

Monday July 18, 2022

We'll explore different types of interior clay and milk paints and variations on common materials used, all completely non toxic and durable for interior use. We will show types of smooth and textured paints, with and without pigments, and discuss whether the paint would or would not benefit from additional care depending on where it will be installed (bathroom, kitchen, etc).

Clay paints can be very fun because it can give your home or an accent wall the look of having been plastered with only this thin finish layer. They can also be tinted to multiple colours for murals and other detailed painting projects, or made smooth if there is a desire to simply emulate flat latex paint but have the soft, non-toxic touch of clay.

Sign up in advance and we can make paint for your project with a materials fee! It will run approximately the same price or a little less than standard latex paint unless you bring your own materials.

You can use clay paints over most any surface, plaster, drywall, sculptures, plywood, wood, and even stone with proper care.

How much should I donate? Many teachers & Schools of Earthen Building charge an average of $100 per day for their classes. While we set up the workshops so we meet our basics for launching the project, additional funds go toward the thriving viability of this model for earthen building education, and makes the work Sustainable. Thanks!
